The European Fanconi Anemia Virtual Tumor Advisory Board (FA VTAB) will provide expert advice from a multidisciplinary team of experienced Fanconi Anemia specialists. As squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) are the most frequent cancers in the adult FA individual, we aim to primarily discuss those cases. However, we intend to expand our Board so that other cancer types can be discussed. The Fanconi Cancer Foundation’s Virtual Tumor Board is also available to European healthcare professionals for consultation on a wider range of cancers. The ultimate aim is to integrate the European and US Tumor Boards.
Are you interested in joining the FA VTAB as a Board Member? We are keen to involve a range of experts across a number of disciplines and across a number of European countries.

If you are a healthcare professional treating a patient with FA who has a head or neck cancer SCC diagnosis and you would like expert advice, you can submit pseudonymised patient details for discussion at the FA VTAB meetings which are held on Zoom at 17:30 CET on the last Tuesday of each month, starting 28/1/25. For very urgent cases, it may be possible to hold an ad hoc meeting by contacting Eunike Velleuer-Carlberg at
How to Submit your Case
- Ensure you have your patient’s consent to discuss their pseudoanonymised medical data. (Example Patient Consent Form)
- Download and complete this Request Form and email it to the Moderator (Dr Eunike Velleuer-Carlberg) at
The Purpose of the European Fanconi Anemia Virtual Tumor Advisory Board
- To centralise and improve management of cancer, primarily of the head and neck cancers in FA patients, considering their unique challenges (e.g., high cancer risk, chemotherapy intolerance).
- To provide structured case discussions and harmonised advice across Europe.
- Future steps will involve the identification of already existing platforms/software solutions to facilitate the VTAB including uploading of anonymised images etc. the creation of a database for research and learning, and ultimately a tissue banking facility.
Who runs the FA VTAB?
- The European FA VTAB is an initiative of FA Europe, a network of patient support groups, physicians and scientists set up in 2019 with the aim of ensuring equal access to optimised care for people across Europe affected by Fanconi Anemia.
- The FA VTAB aims to facilitate expert discussions, harmonise care standards and improve outcomes through structured, multidisciplinary case reviews.
- FA VTAB board members will include oncologists, head and neck/oral/maxillofacial surgeons, haematologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists and oral pathologists/pathologists or any other medical discipline of help.
- The Board is moderated by Dr Eunike Velleuer-Carlberg from the Department of Cytopathology, Heinrich Heine University, Dusseldorf, Germany.
